‘He has the vision and capacity to deliver’ — Udom Emmanuel backs Tinubu’s second term bid
Udom Emmanuel, former governor of Akwa Ibom, says President Bola Tinubu has the vision and capacity to deliver on his plans for Nigeria if re-elected for a second term.
Emmanuel spoke on Wednesday during an interview with Arise Television after returning to Nigeria from an extended trip to the United Kingdom (UK).
Emmanuel served as governor of Akwa Ibom for two terms between 2015 and 2023 before handing over to Umo Bassey Eno, the incumbent.
The former governor said it is natural for any president to seek another term in office, noting that Tinubu deserves support to complete the reforms his administration has initiated.
“At the same time, let’s also be a little bit human. If I were to be in the same position as a president, would I ask for a second term? The answer is yes. I’m supporting Tinubu, number one,” he said.
Emmanuel said Tinubu is the country’s sitting president and has demonstrated a clear vision through his economic reforms.
“He’s the president of my country right now. He’s our father. Number two, he’s in the saddle. He has the vision. I keep saying so,” he said.
“Look at the macro and microeconomic ecosystems, the reforms he has made. I keep repeating this. People might not understand now.”
He added that while the impact of the reforms might not be immediately evident, they would eventually yield positive results.
“You know, it is even written in the Holy Book. It says that what you’re trying to do, people might not understand now, but years later, they will begin to see how it will yield positive results. So that’s my belief,” Emmanuel said.
The former governor argued that anyone with a vision for the country should be given the opportunity to see it through.
“If I were the one, would I have asked for support to complete the vision I had for my country? The answer is yes,” he said.
“So what you would like others to do to you, do the same to others. I would have loved people to support me to complete what I have in mind to do.
“So, if I say that the vision is good for the country, and the man has the capacity to do it, then why not?”
