UROMI DIOCESE GATHERS IN PRAYER FOR LATE ARCHBISHOP AUGUSTINE AKUBEZE

It was a solemn moment of prayer and remembrance today, July 16, as the faithful of the Diocese8 of Uromi gathered to celebrate a Requiem Mass in honour of the late Archbishop of Benin City, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, who served as the pioneer Bishop of the Diocese of Uromi.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, Most Rev. Donatus Ogun, OSA, Archbishop Akubeze’s successor in the Diocese.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Simon Peter Osinde reflected on the Christian understanding of death as a passage to eternal life with God. He described the late Archbishop as a humble and simple shepherd whose exemplary administrative style and dedication to God’s people remain worthy of emulation by all who seek holiness.

In his remarks, Bishop Donatus Ogun spoke with a ‘heavy heart’ over the passing of his predecessor, while giving thanks to God for the invaluable role the Archbishop played as the pioneer Bishop of Uromi Diocese who laid solid foundation for the growth and development of the Diocese.

The Diocese continues to pray for the repose of the soul of Archbishop Augustine Akubeze and for strength and consolation for all who mourn his passing.

May God grant him a merciful judgment and the reward of eternal rest. May the soul of Archbishop Augustine Obiora Akubeze, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
