HON. CHARITY IGUODALA AIGUOBARUEGHIAN CELEBRATES OVIA YOUTHS ON INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026
Today, August 12, we join the rest of the world in celebrating International Youth Day 2026. This year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” speaks directly to the realities of Ovia and the aspirations of our young people, as well as the future of Nigeria.
Our youths are not a monolith. In Okada and Uhen, a young farmer aspires to better access to markets, modern agricultural practices, and mechanised tools. In Udo and Iguobazuwa, a graduate aspires to meaningful employment that matches their skills and qualifications. In Isiohor and Oluku, a tech-savvy student aspires to reliable internet access, electricity, and opportunities to turn innovative ideas into viable businesses.
Different contexts, yes; but one common aspiration: dignity, opportunity, and an Ovia and Nigeria that works for everyone.
As the current Member representing the good people of Ovia North East Constituency 1 in the Edo State House of Assembly, and the NDC Candidate for the House of Representatives, Ovia Federal Constituency, in the 2027 general elections, I have made it a responsibility to ensure that the voices, concerns, and aspirations of our people, especially our youths, receive the attention they deserve.
Youth development cannot remain a subject for speeches and promises. It must translate into sound policies, practical programmes, meaningful projects, and genuine partnerships.
That is why I have continued to push for skills acquisition programmes, support for young entrepreneurs, improved educational opportunities, and legislative attention to primary healthcare and other critical sectors that directly affect the future of our young people. I am equally committed to promoting greater youth inclusion in decision-making, because those who are affected by policies must have a voice and a seat at the table where those policies are made.
To the youths of Ovia, I say this: your energy, creativity, resilience, and innovation are among our greatest assets. You are not merely leaders of tomorrow; you are important stakeholders in the Ovia, Edo State, and Nigeria of today.
Government must meet you halfway by creating the enabling environment for you to thrive, and I remain committed to being a strong bridge between our youths and the corridors of power.
On this International Youth Day, let us celebrate our different contexts while remaining united by one shared dream: a prosperous, peaceful, inclusive, and just Ovia where every young person has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and no one is left behind.
Happy International Youth Day to the great youths of Ovia!
