OsunDecides2026: Adeleke’s wife urges voters to come out, says ‘there’s no intimidation’
The wife of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, Ngozi Adeleke , has urged eligible voters across the state to come out and exercise their civic rights in the ongoing governorship election, assuring them that voting is taking place peacefully.
Adeleke spoke after casting her ballot on Saturday as voters across the state headed to polling units to elect the governor for the next four years.
In a video message after voting, the governor’s wife said there was no intimidation, rancour or fighting at her polling location, urging Osun residents who had yet to vote to leave their homes and participate in the election.
“As you can see, there’s no intimidation of any kind,” she said.
She appealed to all indigenous people of Osun State to take pride in their civic responsibility and participate in the electoral process.
“I’m saying it authoritatively to every Osun indigene that there’s peace, everything is going on peacefully. There’s no rancour, there’s no fight. There’s no intimidation of any kind,” Adeleke said.
She further urged voters to proceed to their polling units and cast their ballots.
“Please, wherever you are, as long as you’re an electorate, please leave your house. Go to your school and vote. That’s your civic right,” she said.
Her comments came against the backdrop of heightened security concerns and allegations of intimidation in the build-up to the election. Civil society groups had reported several election-related violent incidents ahead of the poll, while political actors across the divide had repeatedly called on voters to remain peaceful.
Despite the concerns ahead of the election, voting began on Saturday with reports of early turnout and a heavy security presence in parts of Osogbo, Ede and Ilesa.
The election is being conducted across Osun State’s 30 local government areas as voters choose between the major candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and his challengers.
