Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea Marks 1 Year In Office

Today marks one year since I assumed office as Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District. It has been a year of learning, listening, legislative work and engagement with our people.

Within this period, I have pursued issues that matter to Edo Central, including the National Centre for Renewable Energy, Ewatto Establishment Bill, which seeks to position our district for greater opportunities in renewable energy and innovation. I also raised the urgent ecological challenges facing Esanland before the Senate, particularly the devastating erosion affecting our communities.

As Chairman, Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, I have also continued to engage on the national response to drug abuse and illicit trafficking, while maintaining direct engagement with our constituents through town halls and community interactions.

Beyond legislation, there have been interventions in education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure and community development, including engagements and support across the five Local Government Areas of Edo Central.

I know there is still much work to be done. One year is only a chapter, not the entire story. My responsibility is to continue listening to our people, pursuing the issues that matter to them and working with the relevant institutions to attract meaningful opportunities and development to our communities.
